Never before and never again...

Union Flag over Buckingham Palace

Never, ever before has the Union Flag (or any other flag, apart from the Royal Standard) been flown over Buckingham Palace.

By Order of HRH the Queen, the Union Flag was to fly at Half Mast over Buckingham Palace (as it was all over the Country and at British Embassies & Territories Worldwide) during the Funeral Ceremony of Diana, Princess of Wales, and was to remain there until the end of the day.

When the Union Flag was hoisted over Buckingham Palace, the crowds responded with sdpontaneous applause which lasted for some time.

In the foreground is the golden statue which sits atop the Victoria Memorial.
